Sie f\u00fchrt Relativit\u00e4t, Quantenmechanik, Gravitation und diese erweiterte Stringtheorie zusammen und entwickelt ein Modell sich durchdringender, \u00fcberlagernder und verwerfender &#8222;Multiversen&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stringtheorie<\/strong>: Bezeichnet man eine Sammlung eng verwandter physikalischer Modelle, die anstelle der Elementarteilchen Strings als fundamentale Objekte mit eindimensionaler r\u00e4umlicher Ausdehnung verwenden.<\/p>\n<p>Eine ihrer bisher bedeutendsten Arbeiten ist das Randall-Sundrum-Modell, welches sie 1999 zusammen mit Raman Sundrum ver\u00f6ffentlichte. Ihr 2005 ver\u00f6ffentlichtes popul\u00e4rwissenschaftliches Buch Warped Passages (Verborgene Universen: Eine Reise in den extradimensionalen Raum) wurde in die Liste der hundert bemerkenswertesten B\u00fccher des Jahres 2005 der New York Times aufgenommen.<\/p>\n<p>Zusammen mit ihrem Mitarbeiter Raman Sundrum beschreibt Randall ein f\u00fcnfdimensionales Modell des Universums. Nach Albert Einstein sind Raum und Zeit nicht flach, sondern verbogen und verzerrt.<\/p>\n<p>Randall behauptet, dass die Raumzeit so stark verbogen sein k\u00f6nnte, dass ganze Bereiche davon f\u00fcr uns unzug\u00e4nglich sind. Das geht so weit, dass eine f\u00fcnfte Dimension existieren k\u00f6nnte, die wir wegen dieser Kr\u00fcmmung nicht sehen. Die beobachtbare Welt ist dann nur eine von vielen Inseln inmitten eines h\u00f6her dimensionierten Raumes.
