Bei Zimmertemperatur liegt das Gas wie alle anderen Halogene in Form zweiatomiger Molek\u00fcle vor (Cl2).<\/p>\n<p>Bei -34\u00b0C l\u00e4sst sich Chlor zu einer gelben Fl\u00fcssigkeit verfl\u00fcssigen, bei -101\u00b0C erstarrt es zu gelblichen Kristallen.<\/p>\n<p>Auf tierisches und pflanzliches Gewebe wirkt Chlor stark zerst\u00f6rend. Luft, die 0,5-1% Chlorgas enth\u00e4lt, wirkt auf S\u00e4ugetiere und Menschen rasch t\u00f6dlich, da die Lungenbl\u00e4schen unter Salzs\u00e4uregasbildung ver\u00e4tzt werden. Selbst ein Chlorgehalt der Luft von 0,001% greift die Lungen schwer an.<\/p>\n<p>Chlor bleicht Farbstoffe und t\u00f6tet Mikroorganismen wie Algen oder Bakterien ab.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Mit Chlor gebleichte Faserstoffe (Papiertaschent\u00fccher oder Toilettenpapier) enthalten oft Krebserzeugende R\u00fcckst\u00e4nde und verursachen beim Bleichen umweltbelastende Gifte. Au\u00dferdem setzen sie nach der Entsorgung auf M\u00fclldeponien wieder sch\u00e4dliche Stoffe frei.&nbsp; Daher sollten chlorgebleichte Produkte gemieden werden.<\/p>\n<p>Wegen seiner gro\u00dfen Reaktionsf\u00e4higkeit kommt Chlor im elementaren Zustand jedoch in der Natur au\u00dfer in einigen Vulkangasen praktisch nicht vor.<\/p>\n<p>Chloratome sind aber in Salzen (Chloride, Kochsalz NaCl, in Salzlagerst\u00e4tten oder im Meerwasser in gro\u00dfen Mengen vorhanden.<\/p>\n<p>Chlor ist ein Element der 7. Hauptgruppe oder der 17. Gruppe und geh\u00f6rt zu den Halogenen. Es hat 17 Protonen und 18 Neutronen im Atomkern. Das Chloratom besitzt 17 Elektronen, auf 3 Schmalen verteilt, wobei die Au\u00dfenschale, wie bei allen Halogenen mit&nbsp;7 Au\u00dfenelektronen besetzt ist.<\/p>\n<p>Die Halogene (\u201eSalzbildner\u201c) bilden die 7.&nbsp;Hauptgruppe oder die Gruppe&nbsp;17 im Periodensystem der Elemente. Zu den Halogenen geh\u00f6ren neben Chlor noch<\/p>\n<p>Fluor, Brom, Iod und Astat<\/p>\n<p>Als \u201eSalzbildner\u201c sind sie Bestandteile vieler Salze, z.B. Chlor in Natriumchlorid, NaCl, dem Kochsalz. Halogene sind, wie bereits erw\u00e4hnt, sehr reakiv.<\/p>\n<p>Wegen seiner sch\u00e4dlichen Wirkung auf die Umwelt r\u00e4t man von Chlordesinfektionen im Haushalt ab. Reinigen mit Wasser und Seife reicht hier in der Regel v\u00f6llig aus. Industriell wird immer \u00f6fter die Sauerstoffbleiche (mit Ozon statt Chlor) eingesetzt und such Schwimmb\u00e4der werden teilweise schon mit Ozon desinfiziert.<\/p>\n<p>In Form von Chlorid-Ionen (Cl<sup>&#8211;<\/sup>) leistet Chlor neben Natrium in Form seiner Natriumionen (Na<sup>+<\/sup>) einen lebenswichtigen Beitrag zum Elektrolythaushalt von Tieren und Menschen.<\/p>\n<p>In Verbindung
