Jod ist ein Bestandteil des tierischen und menschlichen Organismus (Jod ist Bestandteil der Hormone der Schilddr\u00fcse) und wird mit der Nahrung aufgenommen. Jod wurde im Jahr 1811 durch  Bernard Courtois bei der Herstellung von Schie\u00dfpulver erstmals aus der Asche von Seetang gewonnen.[\/ls_accordion_section][ls_accordion_section title=“Vorkommen“]In geringen Spuren ist Jod in B\u00f6den und Gesteinen nachweisbar. In der Natur ist es weit verbreitet, jedoch nur in Form seiner Verbindungen, zum Beispiel angereichert im Chilesalpeter, haupts\u00e4chlich in Form von Natriumiodat.[\/ls_accordion_section][ls_accordion_section title=“Kristall- und Molek\u00fclstruktur“] Iod besitzt die Eigenschaften eines Halbleiters. Diese Eigenschaften sind auf das Vorhandensein eines Schichtgitters zur\u00fcckzuf\u00fchren, in dem einzelne Ebenen aus Molek\u00fclen bestehen. Als Halogen hat Jod nat\u00fcrlich auch die F\u00e4higkeit, mit Metallionen Salze zu bilden, beispielsweise mit Kalium kaliumiodid (KI)<\/p>\n[\/ls_accordion_section][ls_accordion_section title=“Verwendung“]\n

Jod wird zum Nachweis von St\u00e4rke verwendet. Es f\u00e4rbt sich bei Kontakt mit St\u00e4rke
\nIodl\u00f6sung zur Desinfektion
\nZusatzstoff im Kochsalz. In unseren Breiten sind die Nahrungsmittel und das Wasser recht arm an Jod. Da die Schilddr\u00fcse es aber zur Funktion ben\u00f6tigt, wird es dem Kochsalz beigemischt um sicherzustellen, da\u00df es in der Bev\u00f6lkerung zu keinem Jodmangel kommt.<\/p>\n
